Southern and Eastern Regional Assembly
The Southern & Eastern Regional Assembly was established in 1999 following the designation of Ireland into 2 regions for the purposes of EU Funding.
The Assembly is made up of 41 councillors who are nominated by their respective Local & Regional Authorities and their functions are:
- Managing and monitoring the Regional Operational Programme 2007-2013;
- Promoting the co-ordination of public services in the region;
- Monitoring & making proposals in relation to the general impact in the region of EU funding;
- Making public bodies aware of the regional implications of their policies & plans;
A Monitoring Committee, consisting of representatives of government departments meet annually to review the effectiveness and quality of the implementation of all expenditure under the Regional Operational Programme. The Regional Assembly provides the Chair and Secretariat for the Monitoring Committee of the Southern and Eastern Regional Operational Programme.
The Mid West Regional Authority is represented at official level on the Operational Committee, Economic and Social Infrastructure Sub-Committee and Monitoring Committee of the Southern and Eastern Regional Assembly.
