Riverfest 2011

Summary of NEA2 supported events on Sunday 1st May 2011

This was the first time an event of this nature was undertaken in Limerick. The number of people attending was estimated at 5500pax. The fact that NEA2 project co-funding was made available enabled this event to take place. Feedback from the event noted that an impact was made in a positive manner and that the general awareness of the amenity of the Shannon was brought to a much wider audience.

Fly Fishing:

A demonstration and competition of fly fishing took place on the Shannon (behind the Courthouse). The first part of the day was aimed at children and making them aware of the sport and what it had to offer. The second part was directed at adults. Suitable prizes were made available to the contestants. These included fishing rods and reels and other associated equipment. The demonstration was give by local expert Mr Sean Quilivan.

Limerick Regatta:

This event was highly successful and featured the following rowing clubs:

Limerick Rowing Club

Shannon Rowing Club
