Regional Planning is a branch of land use planning and deals with the efficient placement of land use activities, infrastructure and settlement growth across a significantly larger area of land than an individual city or town.
In 2004 the Mid-West Regional Authority published its Regional Planning Guidelines/Regional Economic Strategy for the period 2004-2016. The purpose of these Guidelines was to provide a 12-year long term direction and vision for the Region. In accordance with Planning & Development Act 2000, the Guidelines must be reviewed every 6 years.
The Mid-West Regional Authority has undertaken a review of the Guidelines in accordance with the Planning & Development (Amendment) Act, 2010 and the updated Regional Planning Guidelines for the period 2010-2022 are now available.
