County/City Development Plans

A County Development Plan sets out an overall strategy for the proper planning and sustainable development of the County. The legal basis for the plan is set out in the Planning and Development Act 2000. In the making of the Plan the Council is required to carryout:

• Widespread Public Consultation
• Adhere to strick timeframes
• Ensure consistency with other plans

The primary goals and objectives of Development Plans is to guide development of the City/County over the coming years, so as to promote sustainable and orderly development.

Limerick City Council

Limerick City Council at its meeting held on the 22 November 2004 adopted the new Development Plan 2004 for the city after a two year period of public consultation. It is a six-year plan, which came into force on the 20th December 2004, and will operate until December 2010.

The primary goals and objectives of the new Development Plan are to guide development of the City over the coming years, so as to promote sustainable and orderly development.

Limerick County Council

Limerick County Development Plan was formally made on 28th February, 2005. It was prepared over a two year period in accordance with the steps set out in the Planning & Development Act, 2000. The Plan formally came into operation on the 28th March, 2005

It is a six-year development plan for the county that sets out, as concisely as possible, Limerick County Council’s planning policy for the county for that period. Subject to any interim variations that might be made by the Council, the plan will remain in force until 2011.

Clare County Council

County Clare’s Development Plan covers from the period of its adoption in 2005 and, in accordance with the Act, will be valid for six years from the date of adoption by Clare County Council, subject to any review, variations or extensions or alterations made in the future.

North Tipperary County Council

North Tipperary County Development Plan 2004 –2010 was made in accordance with the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended) and the Planning and Development Regulations 2001 (as amended).

The County Development Plan for North Tipperary was made on November 2004.  This Development Plan sets out the councils proposals for the development and use of land within North Tipperary from 2004 – 2010 and beyond.
