INNOVATE - Territorial Innovation and Economic Change
PILOT ACTIONS:
The Mid West has identified a number of pilot actions that will be carried out from 2011-2012 as part of the INNOVATE project. The objective of each pilot action is to to promote community support & engagement and public constulation. The pilot actions identified are:
i) support to Community Arts Festivals;
ii) support to community Artist in Residency Programme;
iii) support to Artist led SWITCH initiative;
iv) support to development of social innovation networks.
More information and updates on each pilot action is outlined below.
PILOT ACTION 1 - Support to Community Arts Festivals:
The Mid West Regional Authority proudly supported Arts festivals in North Tipperary as part of a pilot action of the INNOVATE project. Equipment and promotional support was provided to Terryglass Arts Festival and Dromineer Arts Festival. North Tipperary County Council is associated partner to the INNOVATE project and these pilot actions were identified in line with the North Tipperary Arts Strategy.

PILOT ACTION 2 - Support to Community Based Artist Residency Programme:
Innovate project provided support to a Community Based Artist in Residency Project at Neddy's Cottage, Dromineer from August to September 2011. The Cottage was tested as a pilot project for an artist residency programme. Artist Sharon Lynch was based at the cottage for a number of weeks and interacted with locals and visitors on her work. A full report on the residency programme, also co funded by the INNOVATE project, was completed by Veronica Forsgren to provide an evaluation on the success of the pilot project. PILOT ACTION 3 - Support to Artist Led Exhibition "SWITCH":
The "SWITCH" exhibition will take place in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary from 5th to 12th February 2012.
The Artist led exhibition will light up Nenagh town with digital media installations. A number of actions have been identified in close coordination with associated project partner, North Tipperary County Council for support by the INNOVATE project including i) support in the design and printing of a SWITCH publication, public relations to promote SWITCH, organising of a winter workshop to take place during the exhibition, equipment for the exhibition, organising a researcher to organise a heritage tour of Nenagh town during the exhibition, etc.

PILOT ACTION 4 - Social Innovation Networks:
The MWRA is currently working with project partner Glasgow Caledonian University to elaborate this pilot action that aims to promote social innovation. More details to follow.

INNOVATE Project Description:
The INNOVATE project intends to increase the ability of local and regional authorities to promote economic change and the development of a knowledge based and innovative economic structure. The project aims at boosting the relationship between talent, research, knowledge, creation and economic development, using clustering methodologies at regional and transnational level.
Project Objectives:
Identify innovative and successful policies and practices to promote economic change, innovation and creativity;
Assess the real impact and results of the policies implemented;
Systematize the experience and knowledge acquired to allow capitalization and transferability;
Test and re-evaluate the effectiveness of policies;
Transfer the knowledge to policy makers and practitioners at local and regional level
