The Region is one of considerable geographic diversity, comprising coastal and central plains, mountains, bog land, and drained by the river Shannon, Lough Derg and Shannon Estuary. The western half of County Clare is dominated by the Atlantic coastline and includes the distinctive karst landscape of the Burren in North Clare. Much of Limerick county as well as part of North Tipperary North is characterised by the rolling hills and dairy land of the Golden Vale. |
